The Crank File: What I’m Reading This Week – May 5, 20201

Greetings comic book fans and welcome to another episode of the Crank File. Every Wednesday is new comic book day and on Tuesdays I like to spotlight some of the stuff I’ll be checking out.

Here’s what I’m reading this week:

The Top of the Pile: Star Wars : War of the Bounty Hunters #1

Publisher: Marvel
Words: Charles Soule
Art: Steve Mcniven

What it is: HE STAR WARS COMIC EVENT YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR! • The notorious bounty hunter BOBA FETT has finally landed his greatest prize – HAN SOLO, frozen in carbonite for easy transport. • Fett will bring the smuggler to TATOOINE to collect the massive bounty placed on Solo’s head by the fearsome crime lord JABBA THE HUTT. • Sounds easy. What could go wrong? Rated T

The Mainstream One: Batman #108

Publisher: DC
Words: James Tynion IV
Art: Jorge Jimenez

What it is: Batman goes undercover to infiltrate the transhumanist gang known as the Unsanity Collective and learn more about their sudden appearance in Gotham. And what nefarious plans does Simon Saint have for Arkham Day survivor Sean Mahoney? How does it connect to the Magistrate? And in part two of the action-packed, bone-rattling Ghost-Maker backup story…can our hero stand up to the horror of Kid Kawaii? Plus, don’t miss the debut of the mysterious Miracle Molly!

The Indie One: Die #16

Publisher: Image
Words: Kieron Gillen
Art: Stephanie Hans

What it is: NEW STORY ARC! ‘BLEED,’ Part One-To go into the dark, you have to get to the dark. They never put a dungeon anywhere accessible, do they? Past sins haunt our party, and future sins permeate the landscape. DIE’s closing arc begins as we began: with regrets and screaming.

The #1 One: Heroes Reborn #1

Publisher: Marvel
Words: Jason Aaron
Art: Ed Mcguinness

What it is: A WORLD WITHOUT AVENGERS! Welcome to a world where Tony Stark never built an Iron Man armor. Where Thor is a hard-drinking atheist who despises hammers. Where Wakanda is dismissed as a myth. And where Captain America was never found in the ice because there were no Avengers to find him. Instead this world has always been protected by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Squadron Supreme of America. And now the Squadron faces an attack from some of their fiercest enemies, like Dr. Juggernaut, the Black Skull, the Silver Witch and Thanos with his Infinity Rings. But why is the Daywalker Blade the one man alive who seems to remember that the entire world has somehow been…reborn? Rated T+

The One I’m Buying for the Cover: Immortal Hulk #46

Publisher: Marvel
Words:
Al Ewing
Art: Joe
Bennett
Cover Art: Joe Bennett

What it is: • We thought they were dead. We thought they’d been banished, controlled, made harmless. We were wrong. • The gamma monsters are coming back – converging, one by one, on New York City. And who can stop them now? • Who can save us…from the IMMORTAL HULK? Rated T+

That’s all I got this week. Until next time, carpe comics!
