The Crank File: What I’m Reading This Week – March 18, 2020

Greetings comic book fans and welcome to another episode of the Crank File. Every Wednesday is new comic book day and on Tuesdays I like to spotlight some of the stuff I’ll be checking out.

It’s been a pretty hectic week all around so no commentary this week, just the picks. But I did want to take a moment to remind everyone to be smart and stay healthy, and to think of this as a good excuse to load up on comics and graphic novels and binge read all those titles that have been sitting in your must-read queue.

Here’s what I’m reading this week:

The Top of the Pile: Batman #91

What it is: To save Gotham City, Catwoman will have to commit the greatest heist in the city’s history! But hot on her trail are the Penguin, the Riddler, a horde of assassins, and the master criminal called the Designer! And the most dangerous person standing in her way is the man she’s trying to save: Batman. And what complications will his arise from his new sidekick, Harley Quinn?

The Mainstream One: Outlawed #1

The #1 One: X-Ray Robot #1

What it is: Max is a family man seeking a more interesting life. While conducting a new experiment at work, the fabric of his reality is torn before his eyes, and a robotic figure appears, claiming to be his 277-year-old self. The robot is able to ”X-Ray” multiple dimensions and battles a nihilistic entity from another dimension who wants to take all life to its ”Pre-Big Bang” status.  Max and the robot embark on an interdimensional roadtrip through past and future to take down the ”Nihilist” and save the universe! * Mike Allred’s new bizarre superhero character X-Ray Robot! ”One of the best cartoonists in all of comics has done it again! X-Ray Robot is another Allred homerun!!” -Brian Michael Bendis  ”Michael Allred kicks so much ass I can barely stand it. X-Ray Robot is the work of a master!” -Rob Thomas, creator of Veronica Mars

The One I’m Buying for the Cover: DCeased Unkllables #2 (of 3)

Publisher: DC
Tom Taylor
Karl Mostert
Cover Art: Ben Oliver

What it is: With the world ending around them, Red Hood and Batgirl take shelter in the most unlikely place: an orphanage full of children! Will they be able to protect the kids from the impending hordes of the infected streaming out of Gotham City and Blüdhaven? And elsewhere, Deathstroke, Vandal Savage, and some of DC’s worst villains battle the apocalypse out as an ‘Anti-Suicide Squad.’ But a certain wondrous woman may not let them have it their own way!

That’s all I got this week. Until next time, carpe comics!
