The Crank File: What I’m Reading This Week – October 2, 2019

Greetings comic book fans and welcome to another episode of the Crank File. Every Wednesday is new comic book day and on Tuesdays I like to spotlight some of the stuff I’ll be checking out.

Here’s what I’m reading this week:

The Top of the Pile: House of X #6 (of 6)

Publisher: Marvel
Words: Jonathan Hickman
Art: Pepe Larraz

What it is: THE INEVITABLE FUTURE. The revolutionary tale of Mutantkind’s rise comes to a conclusion that will lay the groundwork of the X-Men’s stories for years to come! Superstar writer Jonathan Hickman (AVENGERS, FANTASTIC FOUR, SECRET WARS) and Marvel Young Gun artist Pepe Larraz (EXTERMINATION, AVENGERS) wrap the series that changes everything! Rated T+

The Mainstream One: Green Lantern #12

Publisher: DC
Words: Grant Morrison
Art: Liam Sharp

What it is: The Green Lanterns will fall! Insidious plans meticulously set in motion since issue #1 have reached their boiling point. As defeat looms for the Corps, Hal Jordan’s showdown with his monstrous antimatter counterpart sets the stage for the final pages of this issue-and the moment that will echo throughout the entire DC Universe! How bad is it for Hal and the Corps? There’s no GREEN LANTERN #13 next month…but writer Grant Morrison is crafting the next chapter of this story, and it’s coming soon! Only there’s no ‘Green Lantern’ in the title. After the events of this issue, how could there be?

The Indie One: The D Ward

Publisher: Keenspot Entertainment
Words: Billy Parker
Art: Alex Smith

What it is: As a child, Zander Wylie experienced a horrific event which led him to a career in psychology. Starting his new job working with an old friend, the patients and inmates of the hospital will change his life forever. Personal demons can be more real than you think… meet the inhabitants of The D Ward.

The #1 One: Ghost Rider #1

Publisher: Marvel
Words: Ed Brisson
Art: Aaron Kuder

What it is: ALL HELLS BREAK LOOSE! The Brothers Ghost Rider are back! Johnny Blaze ain’t just the king of Hell-he’s the warden too. He’s the first line of defense between the demonic hordes trying to escape the joint and the lords of other hells making a play for his throne and all the power that comes with it – including a certain evil queen from his past! Meanwhile, Danny Ketch never wanted to be a Ghost Rider. Now that his brother’s in charge downstairs, Ketch must take on the duty of Earth’s Spirit of Vengeance full-time-no matter how much he’d rather be doing anything else… Superstar creative team ED BRISSON (EXTERMINATION) and AARON KUDER (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY) redefine the Marvel Universe’s supernatural underbelly for a brutal new era! PLUS: the first installment of the Caretaker Chronicles! Forget everything you thought you knew! Rated T+

The One I’m Buying for the Cover: Dceased #5 (of 6)

Publisher: DC
Words:
Tom Taylor
Art:
Trevor Hairsine
Cover Art: Francesco Mattina

What it is: The world is dying at the hands of the infected, and the very survival of humanity is at stake. Facing extinction, Superman and the heroes will make a decision that will fundamentally alter Earth’s present…and future!

That’s all I got this week. Until next time, carpe comics!
