Comic Picks of the Week (August 6, 2014)

It’s going to be a great week at your local comic shop!

Doc Ock is back!  Remember back in Superior Spider-Man #19 when “Spidey” got caught in the temporal explosion and re-appeared soon thereafter?  Well, we now get to find out exactly what took place in that gap in time in The Superior Spider-Man #32 (and #33 when it comes out).    The events that unfold here are a harbinger to the Edge of the Spider-Verse (Sept/Oct 2014) and Spider-Verse (Nov 2014) events that will soon rock Spidey’s world.  Not good enough?  Try on artwork by both Adam Kubert and Giuseppe Camuncoli to augment the story penned by Dan Slott and Christos Gage.  That’s a lot of talent working on one book!

On top of that we get to enjoy new Usagi Yojimbo, more Skottie Young shenanigans in Rocket Raccoon #2, and the final performance of the current creative team on Moon Knight #6.  I guess that I should also mention that there’s also a new issue with that guy with skull on his shirt that should be in an underwater prison still…

Stan Sakai reveals the final fates of many beloved Usagi Yojimbo characters in Usagi Yojimbo: Senso #1 (of 6).  Set twenty years in Usagi’s future, a metal rocket crashes to earth revealing an unimaginable enemy.  This release arrives right on the heels of The Sakai Project, which made its debut at SDCC to both honor the 30 year legacy of Usagi Yojimbo and help aid an amazing storyteller and his wife in their time of need.  The hardcover includes artwork from a veritable horde of talented and caring creators from the comics community.
